The second-ranked Tennessee Volunteers suffered their fourth loss of the season on Wednesday night in Gainesville. The Vols lost to the Florida Gators by a score of 67 to 54 in what will be Tennessee’s second SEC loss of the year.
Tennessee started the game poorly as Florida jumped out to a 17-4 lead over the course of the first seven minutes of the game. Tennessee then closed the game poorly by allowing Florida to go on a 29-10 run over the final 10:40 of the second half.
The middle stretch wasn’t great, but Tennessee continued to keep the fight close in the first half and found the lead a few times in the second half.
After the game in Gainesville, head coach Rick Barnes and forward Olivier Nkamhoua met with the media via zoom to give their reactions to the rivalry loss. Barnes spoke about poor execution offensively throughout the night while Nkamhoua zoned in on aspects of the defensive side that could have been improved.
