The fourth-ranked Tennessee Basketball team achieved one of their biggest wins of the season–and biggest at home–on Saturday against No. 10 Texas, dominating the Longhorns 82-71.

With the win, the Vols are bound to move up at least one spot in the AP Top 25 Poll after No. 2 Alabama lost by double digits on the road to unranked Oklahoma. Additionally, No. 3 Houston avoided an upset loss to Cincinnati, eking out a close home win. So, Tennessee has a chance to move up as far as two spots to No. 2 and will, at worst, be No. 3.

More than the rankings, Tennessee’s National Championship odds improved after their win over the Longhorns. Entering the game, the Vols were mostly at +1200 odds to win it all across the major sports books. Now, the Vols are firmly in the top-tier of teams with best odds to win the 2023 National Championship.

The Vols have been one of the best basketball teams in the nation, if not the best, based off metrics this season. In fact, prior to the Texas game, the Vols claimed the No. 1 spot in KenPom’s rankings after Houston barely defeated Cincinnati.

On KenPom, Tennessee’s adjusted defensive efficiency rating is more than three points higher than second place–a significant margin. Although Tennessee’s offense is ranked 33rd in the nation, their incredible defense catapults them up to the top spot.

The Vols travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET for their next matchup. Tennessee’s next home game is against former Vol coach Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
