Howard was a top 50 recruit coming out of high school and spent just one season at LSU before entering the transfer portal. The 6-foot-1 pocket passer was LSU’s third string quarterback in 2021 behind Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier.
With both quarterbacks poised to return to Baton Rouge in 2022, there was no path to Howard earning serious playing time as a redshirt freshman.

The blue-chip quarterback played in two games as a freshman, not attempting a pass in LSU’s win over Southern before completed two-of-four passes for seven yards against Purdue in the Citrus Bowl.
Howard is far from the no doubt starting quarterback at Ole Miss next season as the Rebels return starting quarterback Jaxson Dart.
After transferring from USC, Dart was average at Ole Miss as a sophomore. The former five-star recruit completed 62% of his passes for 2,974 yards, 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Dart proved to be a capable runner as well, totaling 614 yards and a touchdown on the ground in his first season in Oxford.
Howard and Dart are expected to compete for the Rebels’ starting quarterback job ahead of the 2023 season.
