The University of South Florida announced Monday they have officially signed Tennessee transfer offensive lineman R.J. Perry. Perry had originally committed to USF on Saturday, January 7.

With Perry’s move to USF, he follows former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh down to Tampa Bay. Golesh took the USF head coaching job on December 3.

Golesh took to Twitter yesterday on Monday as well to share his excitement about Perry officially becoming a Bull, saying “Let’s get back to work,” in his caption.

Perry entered the transfer portal on January 4, one day after fellow offensive lineman William Parker. Unlike Perry, Parker is yet to find his new home, and he is the only former Vol offensive lineman remaining in the portal.

Perry redshirted his freshman season in Knoxville after switching from defensive line to offensive line in his first season. The Fairfield, Alabama native was a reserve offensive tackle for the Vols the last two seasons but didn’t see any meaningful offensive snaps. However, he did earn time on special teams, playing the majority of field goal and PAT snaps.

The near 21-year-old came to Knoxville as part of Jeremy Pruitt’s 2020 signing class, ranking as the No. 728 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings.

The 6’6″, 325-pounder will look to see more playing time at USF with three full years of eligibility remaining.
