Texas State transfer defensive lineman Davon Sears Jr. is announcing his commitment on Jan. 9, the sophomore shared on Twitter Friday night.
The Texas State standout announced a top three of Oklahoma, Penn State and Tennessee earlier this week and shares his commitment date fresh off a visit to Tennessee. Sears visited Oklahoma prior to his trip to Knoxville and is heading to Penn State afterwards before announcing his decision.
Despite not having massive stats in his one season of playing time at Texas State, Sears is one of the most sought after defensive linemen in the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-2, 290 pound defensive lineman totaled 15 tackles, one sack, 3.5 tackles for loss and two pass deflections in his sophomore year after not playing in his freshman campaign.
Sears is a Detroit, Michigan native so while he has no direct ties or is in close proximity to any of his three finalists, Penn State is the closest to home.
Tennessee has lost nine players to the transfer portal this offseason but freshman Jordan Phillips is the only defensive lineman in the group. The Vols have already added four players in the transfer portal including Indiana kicker Charles Campbell, UC Davis tight end McCallen Castles, Texas offensive tackle Andrej Karic and BYU linebacker Keenan Pill.
The Vols are hoping to add more players in the portal soon, including Miami offensive tackle John Campbell. Stay up to date at RockyTopInsider.com for all Tennessee transfer portal action.
