Tennessee commit Daevin Hobbs is moving up in the rankings.

247sports updated its player rankings Tuesday boosting Nico Iamaleava from the No. 3 player to the No. 2 player in the country. However, Iamaleava wasn’t the only Vol to jump in the recent rankings.

North Carolina defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs moved up 18 spots from No. 38 to No. 20 in the recent updates making him one of the 32 five-star recruits in the country.

Hobbs’ recruiting bump in the 247sports rankings had a two pronged effect. Not only is Hobbs now a five-star in 247sports own rankings, he is now also a five-star in the On3 consensus rankings. The 6-foot-4, 277 pound defensive lineman is now the No. 32 player and No. 5 defensive lineman in the country according to the On3 consensus rankings.

Hobbs was already a five star in On3’s own rankings when he committed to Tennessee over Alabama and Georgia last month.

The blue chip recruit was one of the most impressive recruiting wins of Josh Heupel’s young tenure in Knoxville. The Concord, North Carolina native took multiple visits to Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama this fall but decided to play his college football in Knoxville.

The Vols recruiting class currently contains 24 commits and is close to set with the early signing period just a week away. One of Tennessee’s top remaining recruiting targets in the 2023 class — Arion Carter — is announcing his college commitment Wednesday afternoon.

Ahead of Carter’s decision, Tennessee holds the No. 10 recruiting class in the 247sports team rankings.
