South Carolina running back Marshawn Lloyd announced his plans to enter the transfer portal Monday after two strong seasons in Columbia.

Lloyd was one of the Gamecocks’ best players in recent years and was a go-to force in South Carolina’s offense this season. The former top 50 totaled 573 yards and nine touchdowns in nine games in 2022 for an average of 5.2 yards per carry and 64 yards per game.

For most of the season, South Carolina’s offense revolved around its run game and primarily Lloyd. Lloyd totaled over 100 yards twice and also ran for 92 yards in the Gamecocks’ win over Texas A&M.

Lloyd missed South Carolina’s upset win over Tennessee with an injury.

The Gamecocks finished the regular season as strong as anyone in the country, knocking off Tennessee and Clemson in consecutive weeks to finish the year 8-4. However, South Carolina has faced turnover since the regular season ended.

On top of Lloyd, top playmaker Jaheim Bell is transferring to Florida State and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield left for Nebraska.

Tennessee is returning its three top running backs from this season but Lloyd is talented enough of a running back that the Vols could pursue him in the portal.

Lloyd is a Wilmington, Delaware native who played his prep football in Maryland.
