South Carolina football hired Arkansas’ tight end coach Dowell Loggains as its newest offensive coordinator Monday afternoon.

Loggains replaces Marcus Satterfield who left Columbia after two seasons to become the newest offensive coordinator at Nebraska. The 42-year old Loggains has ties to the Volunteer State spending six seasons on the Tennessee Titans coaching staff— the last two as offensive coordinator.

The Titans went 13-19 in Loggains two seasons as offensive coordinator with their offensive ranking 19th and 23rd in scoring offense in the two seasons.

After his five years in Nashville, Loggains became the Brown’s quarterback coach bouncing around the NFL for the next seven years with offensive coordinator stints with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets.

Loggains two years at Arkansas are his only two years coaching in college as he now heads to Columbia.

South Carolina is coming off an 8-4 season in head coach Shane Beamer’s second year in Columbia. The Gamecocks ranked 13th in the SEC in points per game in 2021 before improving to eighth in the conference this past season.

The Gamecocks found their offensive groove to end the season in wins over Tennessee and Clemson. Quarterback Spencer Rattler seemingly turned a corner to end the season and is projected to be back at South Carolina next season.

However, South Carolina’s two top offensive playmakers — Jaheim Bell and Marshawn Lloyd — have entered the transfer portal in recent days. Bell committed to Florida State Monday afternoon.
