Knoxville running back DeSean Bishop is back on the market after de-committing from Coastal Carolina Tuesday night.

The Karns High School standout committed to the Chanticleers back in July before backing off his pledge this week. Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell left Coastal earlier this week to become the new head coach at Liberty.

Liberty coach Hugh Freeze left Lynchburg last week to become the newest head coach at Auburn. Freeze’s staff at Liberty never offered Bishop and Chadwell’s new staff hasn’t extended an offer to the speedy running back.

Bishop isn’t a highly touted running back, ranking as only the nation’s No. 1,023 player and No. 78 running back according to the 247sports composite rankings. However, Tennessee had expressed interest in the local standout before he committed to Coastal Carolina.

More From RTI: Where Tennessee Football’s Recruiting Class Ranks

Tennessee wasn’t all in on Bishop back in the summer though he received a scholarship offer and visited the Vols back in March. What Tennessee’s interest in Bishop will be like now is unclear. Low three-star Khalifa Keith is Tennessee’s only running back commit, though four-star athlete Cam Seldon could end up at either running back or receiver.

The Vols currently have just three scholarship running backs on the roster after Len’Neth Whitehead and Justin Williams-Thomas entered the transfer portal earlier this week.

Bishop had a massive 2021 season at Karns, rushing for over 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 194 pound running back had another big year in 2022 leading the Beavers to a 7-4 season.

Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class currently has 23 players committed two weeks ahead of the start of the early signing period.
