Tennessee receiver Jimmy Calloway announced plans to enter the transfer portal on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon.

“I want to thank everyone involved for the opportunity to play the sport I love at the University of Tennessee,” Calloway tweeted. “After much consideration I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3yrs of eligibility.”

Calloway is the second Tennessee receiver to announce plans to enter the transfer portal Wednesday, joining junior receiver Jimmy Holiday.

Calloway is a redshirt sophomore receiver who came to Tennessee in the same recruiting class as Holiday and star Jalin Hyatt before redshirting his freshman season.

The Morrow, Georgia native’s talent was clear in his time at Tennessee. The slot receiver earned playing time early in the 2021 season and was dynamic with the ball in his hands. However, Calloway fell out of the rotation after dropping a critical fourth down pass at Florida while Velus Jones Jr. moved to the slot and had a breakout season.

Calloway was listed as Hyatt’s co-back up on Tennessee’s depth chart this season alongside freshman Squirrel White. However, White earned far more snaps and opportunities than Calloway.

Calloway caught nine passes for 124 yards and one touchdown in his three years in Knoxville but tallied just two catches for 20 yards this season. The 6-foot receiver made noise this season when officials ejected him for throwing a punch in the Akron game.

The transfer portal doesn’t officially open until Monday, Dec. 5. Calloway and Holiday are both expected to enter the portal when it officially opens next week.
