ESPN commentator and former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy believes the College Football Playoff committee under ranked Tennessee at No. 10 following its loss at South Carolia.

While McElroy doesn’t believe Tennessee has any chance of making the playoff, the analyst thinks the Vols should be ranked higher for bowl purposes.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t see the ranking as a problem because he has another upset in mind. Herbstreit shared on the CFP rankings show that he believes Vanderbilt will upset Tennessee in Nashville Saturday.

“After Vandy beats Tennessee this weekend, you won’t have to worry about that,” Herbstreit told McElroy.

Herbstreit’s confidence in Vanderbilt could be a good thing for Tennessee. ESPN’s College Gameday has been to three Tennessee games this season. Herbstreit — ESPN’s leading voice on college football — went 0-3 predicting Tennessee games. The former Ohio State quarterback took Florida and Alabama to beat Tennessee before picking the Vols to beat Georgia in Athens.

Tennessee is 14-point favorites against Vanderbilt but the regular season finale could prove much tighter. The Vols are without starting quarterback Hendon Hooker with starting receivers Cedric Tillman and Bru McCoy both questionable.

Vanderbilt is playing much better football and a heavy rain is expected in Nashville Saturday night.

Kick off from Nashville is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Tom Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Cole Cubelic are on the call for the SEC Network.
