Four-star defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs is one of Tennessee’s top recruiting targets and is 10 days away from announcing his college commitment.
With Hobbs’ commitment date approaching, 247sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in a crystal ball prediction for Hobbs to commit to Tennessee.
Landing Hobbs would be a major coup for Josh Heupel, defensive line coach Rodney Garner and the rest of the Tennessee coaching staff.
Hobbs ranks as the No. 96 player and No. 12 defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class according to the 247sports composite rankings. Both 247sports own rankings and On3 — the two most respected recruiting sites — are even higher on Hobbs.
The Concord, North Carolina native ranks as the No. 38 player and No. 5 defensive lineman according to 247sports and as a five-star and the No. 24 player and No. 3 defensive lineman according to On3.

A commitment from Hobbs would not only add a highly touted prospect to Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class but would also represent one of Heupel’s first recruiting wins over Alabama and Georgia. Hobbs’ top four includes his home state Tar Heels, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
The top 100 recruit visited Tennessee for both the Florida and Alabama games this fall as well as Alabama for the Mississippi State game and Georgia for the Tennessee game.
Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class currently ranks 12th nationally according to the 247sports team rankings following running back Will Stallings Jr’s de-commitment.
Tennessee’s had an abundance of success recruiting defensive linemen with two of its top three commits being edge rushers. Hobbs would become Tennessee’s fourth highest rated commit in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
