Tennessee keeps moving up in the polls following following its, 40-13, win over No. 25 LSU Saturday afternoon. The Vols jumped two spots to No. 6 in the AP Poll while staying put at No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Tennessee jumped Oklahoma State and Southern Cal in the AP Poll to land right outside the top five. Both OSU and USC won Saturday, defeating Texas Tech and Washington State respectably.
Still, the Vols performance in Baton Rouge was impressive enough to jump to No. 6.
It’s the highest Tennessee has been ranked since early in the 2005 season when the Vols ranked third nationally. Tennessee’s high preseason ranking was fool’s gold as they ended up posting a 5-6 record.
There was slight shakeup in the top five this week.
Georgia is back at No. 1 with Ohio State at No. 2 as Alabama fell to No. 3 following its narrow win over Texas A&M in Tuscaloosa.

Clemson jumped one spot to No. 4 in the AP Poll while Michigan feel one spot to No. 5.
Tennessee turns its attention to No. 3 Alabama and this week’s premier matchup at Neyland Stadium. The Vols have yet to beat Nick Saban in his 16 years at Alabama. However, Alabama’s shown weakness this season with a pair of narrow wins over Texas and Texas A&M.
Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young missed Alabama’s win over Texas A&M while recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered the week before against Arkansas. Young was available to play against Texas A&M and is likely to play against Tennessee.
College Gameday is returning to Tennessee for the second time in four weeks for the top 20 matchup.
Other SEC teams in this week’s AP Poll include No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 16 Mississippi State and No. 22 Kentucky.
