Bengals Hope Ravens’ Defensive Prowess is Nevermore

Edgar Alan Poe was writing about a bird, not a cat, but it will be the Bengals “rapping at the chamber door” in Baltimore on Sunday night during an AFC North clash.

There was a time when the Ravens’ defense was “ghastly grim” for opponents like the famous poem, but Baltimore has allowed the most yards of any AFC team through four games. Most of that has come through the air: the Ravens D has surrendered 315 passing yards per game.

That should make Joe Burrow excited to get on the field Sunday night, but the Cincy QB has been uneven so far this season.

As goes Burrow, so goes the Bengals. In the first two games of the season, Burrow had a 69.3 QBR. But in the last two weeks, he’s tossed five touchdowns without an interception and produced a 115.4 QBR. Not surprisingly, Cincinnati lost the first two and won the last two games. Sitting at 2-2, this contest against division-rival Baltimore is key, because the teams are bound to fight over a playoff spot in a competitive AFC.

DraftKings is giving Burrow and the Bengals 3.5 points as road dogs. The Ravens’ offense might be getting too much credit. Sure, Lamar Jackson is an MVP candidate because of all the things he can do, but he can also be his own worst enemy. Jackson has had five games with multiple interceptions since the beginning of the 2021 season, and that leads the NFL. If the Bengals can halt Jackson’s feet (Cincy ranks fourth in the NFL in fewest yards allowed on the ground), they won’t have to worry about his arm.

Our Pick: Take the 3.5 points and the Bengals. Also, we like the Under on Lamar Jackson’s passing yards (227.5 Yards Passing from DraftKings Sportsbook)
