Tennessee has now officially added its second commitment to the 2024 class in the summer of 2022. On Saturday morning, in-state defensive lineman Carson Gentle announced his commitment to Tennessee through a post on social media.
“COMMITTED,” Gentle said. “#GBO”

Early into the 2024 recruiting cycle, Gentle is currently ranked as a three-star prospect according to On3 Sports, 247 Sports, and Rivals. Additionally, according to 247’s composite rankings, Gentle is listed as the No. 34 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 7 overall player from the state of Tennessee.
In addition to what he does on the football field, the Chattanooga native is also a competitor in wrestling and track and field at McCallie School. Gentle posted a top-five finish as a sophomore in the shot put event at the Tennessee Division 2 A & AA state championships this past May.
On the football field, though, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound lineman is explosive off the line of scrimmage. Gentle lined up both on the line as an edge rusher and back as a linebacker during his sophomore season at McCallie. With the amount of athleticism that Gentle already possesses, it makes sense to use him at different spots on the defense during high school games. Gentle has a solid motor and certainly packs a pop to his hits.

Gentle held seven scholarship offers at the time of his commitment to Tennessee. That also includes Stanford, Virginia Tech, Harvard, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ole Miss.
According to 247, Gentle has attended three Tennessee camps and taken one separate unofficial visit. In June of 2021, before his sophomore season, Gentle attended his first Tennessee camp and received an offer from the Vols six days later. Then, later in the month, Gentle returned to Knoxville for another camp. Gentle took an unofficial visit to Tennessee in October 2021 and followed that up with an unofficial visit to Georgia in November. Lastly, Gentle attended a Tennessee camp this past June before announcing his commitment on Saturday.
Carson Gentle marks Tennessee’s second commit to the class of 2024. On July 4, five-star EDGE Jonathan Echols announced that he would officially be the first commit to the Vols’ class. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder currently plays for IMG Academy in Florida.
With the combination of Echols and Gentle, Tennessee and defensive line coach Rodney Garner now has two solid pieces for the trenches early in the recruiting cycle for the class of 2024.
