On3 Sports has updated its class of 2023 individual football prospect rankings on Monday. The top commit in Tennessee’s 2023 class, Nico Iamaleava, has boosted up the rankings with the update.
On3’s update on Monday morning now has Tennessee quarterback commit Nico Iamaleava as the No. 2 overall prospect in the class and the No. 2 quarterback prospect. Iamaleava also now ranks as the top player in the state of California. The Tennessee commit only sits behind class of 2023 quarterback Arch Manning in On3 Sports’ rankings.
Prior to On3’s update on Monday, Iamaleava was sitting as the No. 5 prospect in the class of 2023 rankings.
“On3 has updated its 2023 On300 after a summer filled with camps and 7-on-7 tournaments,” On3 reporter Drew Schott wrote on Monday. “The No. 2 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle and earning five-star status is Long Beach (Calif.) Long Beach Poly quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who is committed to Tennessee. Iamaleava jumped up from No. 5 in the previous rankings.”
More from RTI: Tennessee Receiver Target Announces Commitment Date
The 6-foot-6, 195-pound quarterback has been busy since announcing his commitment to Tennessee in late March. And based on his movement in the updated rankings from On3, it looks as though Iamaleava’s busy summer has put him on the track to success.
In April, Iamaleava showed his talent in the Pylon 7-on-7 tournament held in Knoxville, Tennessee. Then, in June, Iamaleava put on a show at the Overtime 7-on-7 tournament and was named the tournament MVP by On3 Sports.
While doing an interview on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville last week, On3 Sports founder Shannon Terry spoke highly of Nico Iamaleava.
“I get a chance every once in a while to watch tape of kids – I am not involved in the scouting and ranking process,” Shannon said on 3HL. “I think that kid [Nico Iamaleava] is the best recruit prospect in this class by far. Just to be clear, he is phenomenally athletic, look at his volleyball tape. His accuracy is going to improve – it’s already good. He has all the tools to be a superstar NFL player.”
Five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava is the highest-ranked commit in Tennessee’s class of 2023 – which now features 18 committed players. According to On3, Tennessee has one five-star player (Iamaleava) and six four-star prospects: EDGE Chandavian Bradley, EDGE Caleb Herring, TE Ethan Davis, ATH/WR Cam Seldon, DB Sylvester Smith, and OT Sham Umarov. The Vols’ class has five players from the state of Tennessee.
