With the release of Baseball America’s 2022 All-American awards this week, three Tennessee Volunteers have officially become unanimous All-Americans: Tennessee RHP Chase Dollander, OF Drew Gilbert, and third baseman Trey Lipscomb.
After tremendous play throughout the season, Dollander, Gilbert, and Lipscomb landed an All-America selection on all six of the major publications.
Baseball America was the final publication to round out the list this week. The publication named all three players as Second Team All-Americans.
In his first season at Tennessee, Chase Dollander was vital for the Volunteers down the stretch of the season. Despite missing time in the middle of the schedule with an injury, Dollander came back stronger than before and was eventually named the SEC Pitcher of the Year. Dollander finished the season 10-0 with a 2.39 ERA and .175 opponent batting average in 79 innings.
Dollander was named a First Team All-American by D1Baseball.com, ABCA, the National College Baseball Writer’s Association, Collegiate Baseball, and Perfect Game. In addition, Dollander was named a Second Team All-American by Baseball America.
Tennessee center fielder Drew Gilbert, a fan-favorite among those in Knoxville, just finished out his third and likely final season with the team as the MLB Draft approaches. Gilbert’s hard work and energic spirit provided the sparkplug for Tennessee this season in a number of different situations. The Stillwater, Minnesota native finished the season with a .362 batting average, 72 hits, 60 home runs, and 70 RBIs.
Gilbert was named a First Team selection by the NCBWA and a Second Team All-American by ABCA, Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game, and Baseball America. Gilbert was selected as a Third Team All-American by D1Baseball.com.
And lastly, after patiently waiting three years for his chance to break through the Vols’ starting rotation, Tennessee third baseman Trey Lipscomb proved to be one of the SEC’s most dangerous bats. Lipscomb provided a massive bat in the middle of Tennessee’s lineup that proved crucial time and time again. Lipscomb’s popularity also found its way to former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, who seemed to enjoy himself throughout Tennessee’s season. The native of Fredrick, Maryland ended the season with a .355 batting average, 89 hits, 22 home runs, and 84 runs batted in.
Lipscomb was named a First Team All-American by the NCBWA and a Second Team selection by ABCA, Collegiate Baseball, and Baseball America. Lipscomb was named a Third Team All-American by D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game.
