Heading into the second year of the Josh Heupel era in Knoxville, eight Tennessee players have landed on Phil Steele’s 2022 preseason All-SEC teams.
Expectations are high in Knoxville following an impressive 7-6 season last year. While the Vols still have plenty of room to grow on both sides of the ball, Tennessee did show the conference that a new regime had arrived.
Tennessee’s offense will return key starters such as quarterback Hendon Hooker, wide receiver Cedric Tillman, running back Jabari Small, and offensive lineman Jerome Carvin. In addition, Tennessee’s defense will bring back linebacker Jeremy Banks, defensive back Trevon Flowers, and EDGE rusher Byron Young.
Out of the eight All-SEC selections for Tennessee from Phil Steele’s publication, one is on the first team, two on the second team, three on the third team, and two on the fourth team.
All eight of Tennessee’s selections from Phil Steele have also been selected to Athlon’s All-SEC teams, which were released in early June. Athlon, however, has two more selections from Tennessee compared to Phil Steele in Tyler Baron and Trevon Flowers.
