Lady Vols Celebrate the Birthday of Pat Summitt, Fundraiser Underway

The college basketball world is celebrating Pat Summitt today on what would have been her 70th birthday.

The legendary Tennessee coach is remembered for a number of elite accomplishments: Eight National Championships, 18 NCAA Final Four appearances, 16 SEC Tournament titles, and 16 SEC regular-season titles. However, Summitt’s legacy goes far beyond wins and losses as she changed the game of basketball forever while creating countless lasting relationships with her players and fans.

Today, on what would have been Summitt’s 70th birthday, the Pat Summitt Foundation is holding a fundraiser on June 14 in her memory. The Pat Summitt Foundation is looking to raise 70,000 dollars on Summitt’s 70th birthday to “promote education and awareness about Alzheimer’s disease”.

“The Pat Summitt Foundation works every day to advance research for treatment and a cure, provide support for patients and caregivers, and promote education and awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia,” The Pat Summitt Foundation’s donation site states. “Taking care of patients and caregivers was important to Coach Summitt. To honor her today, we’re raising $70,000 to support programs and services that directly impact those battling Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.”

To promote the fundraiser, the Pat Summit Foundation is posting pictures and videos of Summitt and former Tennessee players on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

The Pat Summitt Foundation is accepting donations and can be found here. According to the website, donors with donations that exceed 30 dollars will be given a special thank you while supplies last.
