Postseason baseball is returning to Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the second straight year. The NCAA selected Knoxville as one of 16 host sites for next weekend’s regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
Tennessee all but locked up its right to host earlier this month when the Vols’ earned their 17th and 18th conference win in a series victory over Auburn.
While it won’t be announced until Monday’s NCAA Tournament selection show, the Vols are a lock to earn the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. That would set up Tennessee to host a super regional Tennessee enters the NCAA Tournament 53-7 (25-5 SEC) after recording one of the best regular seasons in SEC history.
The Vols defended their regular-season SEC Championship by winning the SEC Tournament this week in Hoover.
Tennessee knocked off rival Florida in Sunday’s championship game, earning its fourth win over the Gators this season. RHP Camden Sewell earned the win behind five shutout innings while the Vols’ offense used a pair of big innings to earn the, 8-5, win.
Outfielder Drew Gilbert earned SEC Tournament MVP while Gilbert, Trey Lipscomb and Chase Dollander were named to the SEC All-Tournament team.
Texas A&M, Auburn and Florida joined Tennessee as SEC teams earning host sites.
The NCAA Selection show is Monday at noon ET on ESPN2. Tennessee will open NCAA Tournament play at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Friday, June 3.
