Tennessee legend and WNBA superstar Candace Parker may be closing in on her retirement from playing basketball. While appearing on NBA TV recently, the 14-year veteran teased that the upcoming 2022 WNBA season could potentially be her last.
The video of Parker on NBA TV comes from Whitney Medworth on Twitter.
“Am I operating under the assumption that this is the last season we see Candace Parker play in the WNBA?” the WNBA TV host asked Parker.
“That is how I am entering the season,” Parker replied. “I mean, I don’t know. I don’t know what the future holds. I know my contract is up after this year and there will be decisions to be made.”
The 2022 WNBA regular season will last from May 6 to August 14 with playoffs taking off after that.

Candace Parker will begin her 15th season in the WNBA when her Chicago Sky host the Los Angeles Sparks to kick off the 2022 WNBA season on Friday night.
After Parker was selected with the first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, the former Tennessee legend was with Los Angeles for the first 13 seasons of her career. Over the span of that time, Parker would cement herself as a true basketball legend. Parker would claim a WNBA Championship and a Finals MVP in 2016 to go along with six All-WNBA First-Team selections.
Following the 2020 season in Los Angeles, Parker would make the first move of her WNBA career when she joined the Chicago Sky. In just one season with her new home, Parker helped lead Chicago to a WNBA Championship in 2021.
In July of 2021, Parker made history as the first woman to ever be selected for the cover of the NBA 2K video game franchise.
In addition to her decade of dominance on the court, Parker has found her stride in the broadcasting side of the game recently as well. Parker joined the NBA on TNT broadcast crew in 2018 to discuss, analyze, and broadcast a number of basketball games including NBA and NCAA tournament games. In 2019, after a successful debut year with TNT, Parker then signed an extension with the Turner network.
Ever since she became a fixture of the broadcast, Parker has certainly turned herself into one of the most well-respected basketball voices in the game, both in men’s and women’s hoops.
In addition to her work life, Parker’s personal life has become far busier in the last few months. In December 2021, Parker announced that she had married Russian women’s basketball player Anna Petrakova in 2019 and that Petrakova was set to give birth to their son, Airr Larry Petrakov Parker, in February of 2022.
Candace Parker and the defending WNBA Champion Chicago Sky will defend home court against Parker’s former team, the Los Angeles Sparks, tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBA TV.
