Where Tennessee Baseball Stands In Bracketology Three Weeks From Postseason Play

There’s just three weekends left in the college baseball regular season as the race to earn an NCAA Tournament bid and better seeding begins to wind down.

Tennessee has been the most dominant team in college baseball all season, posting a 41-4 (19-2 SEC) record with 11 regular season games left.

Unsurprisingly, Tennessee is the No. 1 overall seed according to both D1Baseball and Baseball America’s postseason projections.

D1Baseball has Georgia Tech (No. 2), Connecticut (No. 3) and Coppin State (No. 4) in the Knoxville Regional alongside the Vols.

The Yellow Jackets are 27-18 (12-12 ACC) so far this season with series wins over top 25 foes Georgia and Miami.

UConn is perhaps the northeast’s best baseball program, posting a 37-8 (11-1 Big East) record. The Huskies haven’t played a strong strength of schedule, but do boast wins over Louisville and USC.

Coppin State would be one of the worst teams in the 64-team field, currently holding a 21-25 record.

In the Knoxville Super Regional, Tennessee would face the winner of the Spokane Regional which D1Baseball projects to be Gonzaga, UCLA, Penn and North Dakota State.

D1Baseball’s bracketology includes eight SEC teams with Auburn (No. 6 overall seed), Texas A&M (No. 8 overall seed), Arkansas (No. 9 overall seed), Georgia (No. 11 overall seed) and LSU (No. 15 overall seed) hosting the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament and Vanderbilt and Florida also making the field.

Alabama was the second team out of the NCAA Tournament field.

Baseball America has has Mercer (No. 2), Wake Forest (No. 3) and Alabama State (No. 4) in the Knoxville Regional.

Mercer is one of the best mid major teams in the country, posting a 35-9 (9-3 SoCon) record to date. The Bears have midweek wins over Georgia Tech and Florida State.

Wake Forest won its first 11 games to open the season but is just 21-13 since. The Demon Deacons are 10-11 in ACC play and just 8-7 on the road.

Alabama State is 24-18 with sizable losses against Alabama and Auburn.

Baseball America has Tennessee matching up with the Spokane Regional as well. Oregon, Texas Tech and Penn join Gonzaga in Baseball America’s projection.

Baseball America has the same eight SEC teams making the field that D1Baseball does with some different seedings. Georgia is its No. 5 overall seed, Auburn is the No. 9 overall seed, Arkansas is the No. 10 overall seed and Texas A&M is the No. 12 overall seed. They do not have LSU hosting a regional.
