Josh Heupel for Mike Honcho? Tony Vitello Says Fair Trade!

Even with similar sporting backgrounds under the Tennessee umbrella, Josh Heupel and Tony Vitello have that odd-couple type of humor together.

During Vitello’s Thursday press conference on Tennessee’s campus, Heupel decided to have some fun and interrupt near the end with a question of his own.

“Do you need to maybe add some left-handed middle relief?” Heupel, a former left-handed Heisman-runner-up quarterback, asked.

“Yeah and after that pitch you threw the other day, we would like you to come over and throw bullpen today,” Vitello responded. “You should be ready to go for Friday night!”

During the Vols’ home baseball series last weekend against Missouri, Heupel threw the honorary first pitch before the Saturday night game. Heupel delivered the pitch a touch on the outside, but like any great quarterback, Tennessee relief pitcher Kirby Connell was able to corral the “snap” and set up in his three-step drop.

The Sports Animal’s Vince Ferrera then added in a good line, asking if a Heupel for Mike Honcho trade could be in the works after Vitello’s recruiting pitch.

“That’s a fair trade,” Tony Vitello said while exiting the stage.

“Uh, I don’t know about that!” Josh Heupel responded with a laugh.
