Tennessee commit and five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava has had a busy weekend. After announcing his verbal commitment to Tennessee on Mar. 21, Iamaleava was back in town this weekend for two big events: the Tennessee Vols’ spring scrimmage and the Pylon 7-on-7 Tournament held at Farragut High School.
Starting with the latter, Iamaleava’s Team T.O.A. captured the championship on Sunday morning after a 3-0 day on the field. Iamaleava was noticeably on his game on Sunday, delivering strikes all over the field. Even though it is a toned-down style of football, the speed that the receivers and defensive backs play at and the physicality they play with is nothing to scoff at. Iamaleava was impressive as he was able to accurately deliver the ball into tight windows across various different lengths down the field.
The five-star quarterback even caught a receiving touchdown in the second game. Who was the pass thrown by? None other than Nico’s brother, Madden, a quarterback in the class of 2025.

“Knoxville is great,” Iamaleava said in the interview. “Had a great weekend with my guys and got to bring some of the T.O.A. boys on the trip with me. It was good. They got to experience Knoxville and yeah, we won the tournament, so that was a little cherry on top. We overall had a great weekend and we still got stuff to do today.”
In between the tournament games on Saturday and Sunday, Iamaleava was up on campus with the Tennessee coaching staff and other recruits. The five-star quarterback spoke with Hendon Hooker, was on the sideline for the Vols’ scrimmage, and even put his recruiting hat on and got to work.
“The vibe was great,” Iamaleava said in the interview with RTI. “I got to spend some time with Hendo – Hendon Hooker – and I got to meet a couple of the players. And recruit! So that was my main goal out there on the field. I was recruiting a couple of the top guys. You know, Carnell Tate and Kyler Kasper. My guy Rico [Walker], too. So there’s a couple guys out there I was recruiting. Hopefully we get them and we start this 2023 class.”
