Tennessee football made a massive splash in the recruiting world Monday, landing five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava

The 6-foot-5, 195 pound quarterback is the highest ranked recruit of the Josh Heupel era, ranking as the No. 5 player in the country and No. 3 quarterback in the On3 consensus rankings.

Arch Manning and USC commit Malachi Nelson are the only quarterbacks ranked higher than Iamaleava in the class of 2023.

Iamaleava ranks as the fifth-highest ranked recruit in the modern era of recruiting according to 247sports and is the Vols’ highest ranked recruit since landing defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie in the 2015 class.

The Long Beach, California native is the first five-star quarterback to commit to Tennessee since Casey Clausen — a Mission Hills, California native.

Iamaleava attended Downey High School this past season where he led the Bears to an 8-1 record and first place finish in the San Gabriela Valley League.

Since the end of the season, the five-star has transferred high schools and will play his senior high school season at Long Beech Poly High School.

The highly touted quarterback impresses with his measurable and athleticism. Iamaleava is a star high school volleyball player and his brother plays college volleyball at Long Beech State.

The consensus top-10 recruit possesses tremendous arms strength and ability to extend plays and make throws on the run.
