Matt Ryan Traded to Indianapolis
With the commitment of five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava on Monday, Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class now has a strong foundation to build on with its five commits.
In the hours following Iamaleava’s announcement, a few of Tennessee’s committed players and prospects gave their reaction on social media.
Ethan Davis and Jack Lutrell, two prior commits to Tennessee’s 2023 class, were some of the first to jump into the excitement of the announcement.
“Told you we finna change the culture,” four-star tight end Ethan Davis said in a tweet on Monday.
Having a five-star player at Iamaleava’s caliber is certainly a way to change the culture, indeed.
However, it wasn’t just Tennessee’s own commits that reacted to the news. With Iamaleava now committed to Tennessee, the door is open for other talented prospects to walk through as well. Iamaleava now has the opportunity to bring with him some truly elite players, including five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate.
While Tate is heavily projected to go to Ohio State, playing with Iamaleava in Josh Heupel’s system could be a turning point in his recruitment. In fact, this is a turning point in the recruiting world in general. Now that recruits know who they can play with at Tennessee, the Vols are putting themselves into a position to be major players in some of the nation’s top recruiting battles.
According to On3 Sports’ consensus rankings, Iamaleava is ranked as the fifth player in the class, the third quarterback in the class, and the second overall player from the state of California.
