Is #4 Arkansas Vulnerable Against #13 Vermont?
Tennessee stayed unbeaten at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on the season, sweeping Rhode Island in a three-game series.
The Vols’ bats stayed red-hot on the weekend, scoring at least eight runs in every game as they outscored the Rams’ 37-10.
Right fielder Jordan Beck and utility man Jared Dickey led the way for Tennessee at the plate, continuing their fantastic seasons.
Beck hit .538 (7-of-13) with an RBI including an excellent five-hit performance in Sunday’s series finale win.
Dickey earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, reaching base in eight-of-15 plate appearances while recording a .462 weekend batting average, four extra-base hits and 13 RBIs.
Trey Lipscomb and Seth Stephenson each hit .444 on the weekend while driving in four runs. As has been the case all season, Tennessee got production up-and-down its lineup. Fourteen Vols recorded hits and 12 drove in runs.
Chase Dollander bounced back from his first poor outing in a Tennessee uniform, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out six batters in the Vols’ Saturday win. Chase Burns wasn’t as sharp as he was the first three weekends, surrendering four hits and four walks while striking out six in five innings.
The freshman allowed two runs, though neither were earned.
Tennessee returns to Lindsey Nelson Stadium Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. ET against Eastern Kentucky before opening up SEC play in Knoxville this weekend against South Carolina. The Gamecock struggled for much of the pre-conference slate before winning two out of three games against No. 1 Texas last weekend.
The Longhorns handed the 15-1 Vols their lone loss of the season in the Shriner’s Children’s College Classic in Houston.
