With the SEC Tournament in the rearview mirror, Tennessee’s women’s basketball team is in a week long wait to figure out its NCAA Tournament draw on Sunday, March 13.
Tennessee went 22-7 (11-5 SEC) in the regular season before beating Alabama in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal and falling to Kentucky in the SEC Tournament semifinal.
After struggling the second half of SEC play, Tennessee still seems poised to earn a top-four seed and host the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
According to ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme, the Lady Vols project as a three-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
ESPN’s bracket has Tennessee facing 14-seed Charlotte in the round of 32 with six-seed Ohio State and the winner of 11-seed play in game Missouri State and Florida State also in the Knoxville region.
Missouri State is an interesting potential opponent as head coach Kellie Harper spent seven seasons as head coach before leaving for Tennessee.
Tennessee is looking to advance to the Sweet 16 and the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season when the Lady Vols made the Elite Eight.
According to ESPN, Tennessee is projected in the East Region and would play the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Other top seeded teams in the East Region include No. 1 NC State, No. 2 Iowa State and No. 4 Indiana.
Tennessee is one of nine SEC teams projected to make the NCAA Tournament, joining No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 7 Florida, No. 7 Kentucky, No. 7 Georgia, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 11 Missouri.
