Walker is a Nashville native who played his prep football at Ensworth High School. A three-star recruit, the defensive back went to Georgia Tech out of high school where he’s played three seasons.
The 6-foot-1, 240 pound defensive back redshirted his freshman season while playing in three games and has totaled 95 tackles including a pair of 40-plus tackle seasons. Walker also boasts two forced fumbles and six pass breakups.
With NCAA COVID-19 eligibility relief, Walker still has three years of eligibility left. The defensive back is versatile, but could compete for the starting job at the STAR spot or push Tennessee’s returning safeties for the starting jobs.
Walker becomes the second player Tennessee has added in the transfer portal this offseason, joining Florida offensive lineman Gerald Mincey.
Tennessee earned a commitment from highly sought after Wyoming receiver Isaiah Neyor before the playmaker flipped his commitment and enrolled at Texas.
Walker was on campus this weekend as part of a massive recruiting weekend for Tennessee football. The Vols hosted an abundance of visitors including five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava. The highly sought after California quarterback was still on campus Sunday afternoon taking in Tennessee’s softball game.
Tennessee returns three of its five starting defensive backs from a season ago, but Walker will have an opportunity to compete for playing time early.
