Report Links Tennessee OL Coach To Georgia Opening

Will Eric Bieniemy Ever Be An NFL Head Coach?

Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee is a candidate for the same position at Georgia, 247sports Brandon Marcello reported Thursday.

Georgia is in search for a new offensive line coach after Matt Luke resigned earlier this week to spend more time with his family. Luke spent two-years in Athens after serving as Ole Miss’ head coach.

Other candidates on Marcello’s list include former Tennessee and current Auburn offensive line coach Will Friend, Ohio State’s Greg Studrawa and Baylor’s Eric Mateos.

Elarbee has spent just one year in Knoxville but has been with Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel since 2016. Elarbee spent two years as Missouri’s offensive line coach under head coach Barry Odom and offensive coordinator Heupel before following the former Oklahoma quarterback to Central Florida.

The Vols’ offensive line made massive improvements in Elarbee and Heupel’s first season in Knoxville. Former five-star Darnell Wright played by far the best football of his collegiate career, making a major jump in his junior season as he moved from right to left tackle.

Under Elarbee’s tutelage, All-SEC lineman Cade Mays made the full time transition to right tackle. The versatile offensive lineman played a number of positions in his two seasons at Georgia and first season at Tennessee, but struggled when he had to play offensive tackle.

That changed this season as Mays developed into a strong right tackle.

The Vols played a number of players in the interior of the offensive line due to injuries but senior Jerome  Carvin played the best football of his career, allowing no sacks. Carvin is returning to Tennessee for his super senior season as Cade Mays in the only starting offensive lineman the Vols are losing this offseason.

Tennessee currently has one opening on its staff after receiver’s coach Kodi Burns left to take the same position with the New Orleans Saints.
