Look Towards The Over (148.5) For Furman Vs. Samford
Tennessee leaned on its freshmen big men in Tuesday night’s win at Missouri. Both Jonas Aidoo and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield played their most minutes in SEC play in the 19-point win.
The increased minutes were due in part to decreased minutes from super-senior John Fulkerson. Fulkerson plays just six minutes against Missouri after suffering an injury against Arkansas on Saturday.
“He had a little hip pointer,” Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said. “He played but he didn’t feel like he could go anymore tonight, so we were fine with that.”
The super-senior played five minutes int he first half before giving a go for a minute in the second half and deciding it was not his night.
Fulkerson tallied two points and an assist in his limited minutes while adding three fouls.
The Kingsport native has had an up-and-down season and had put together two straight strong games entering the Arkansas matchup. Fulkerson tallied 12 points and six rebounds against Vanderbilt before tallying 14 points and eight rebounds against Kentucky.
Since, Fulkerson has totaled just four points and three rebounds.
Fulkerson worked to the side at Tennessee’s practice on Monday, but that isn’t necessarily a major deal at this point in the season.
We will see what Barnes says about Fulkerson’s status for Saturday when the head coach talks to the media Friday, but the fact that he suited up in Columbia is a good sign.
Auburn — who Tennessee hosts at Thompson-Boling Arena Saturday — boasts one of the nation’s best front courts. The Vols need Fulkerson and the rest of their front court to step up is they’re going to defeat the third-ranked Tigers.
