Cooper Kupp Dedicates Super Bowl Win To Kobe Bryant

Even though the weather outside didn’t make it easy, Tennessee Baseball’s bats were hot in the season-opener. On a chilly day in Knoxville to begin the season on Friday, the gritty Tennessee team took the field and grabbed their first win of the year.

Tennessee (1-0) defeated Georgia Southern (0-1) by a score of 9 to 0 in Tennessee’s Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols looked great in their first game of the season on Friday as the bats and pitching arms were working in unison to give Tennessee the advantage. Tennessee knocked two two-run home runs and a three-run home run out of the park before the seventh-inning stretch. In total, Tennessee had four total home runs on the evening. In addition to Tennessee’s high-powered offense, freshman pitcher Chase Burns did not give up a run in five innings in his first career start at Tennessee.

After the game, Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello met with the media to react to the Vols’ season-opener. While speaking to the media, Vitello gave credit to his team and the way they worked hard in the off-season to prepare for this moment.

Additionally, Vitello also spoke about a number of his players from Friday. Vitello spoke about Burns’ pitching performance, Trey Lipscomb’s big bat, Tennessee’s veteran players, and much more.

Tennessee’s three-game series with Georgia Southern in Knoxville will continue through the weekend as the Vols look to collect even more wins to start the season. The teams will meet back up on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET and then again on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
