Payback was on the menu Tuesday night in Knoxville. After an embarrassing, gut-wrenching, and almost season-defining 28-point loss to Kentucky in January, Tennessee did what they needed to do on Tuesday night in Knoxville. Tennessee played a relentlessly aggressive game and found the win over No. 4 Kentucky by a score of 76 to 63.
With the win, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes moves to 9-7 in his Tennessee tenure over John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats.
Tuesday’s game was electric, to say the least. And after the locker room festivities died down after the game, Barnes met with the media to discuss his reaction to the Vols’ big win.
Barnes spoke about what this win means to the team and how they were able to come together and fight through obstacles and trouble – not just in this game, but really in the last month of games as a whole. Barnes spoke about the resilience, the grit, and the passion that Tennessee played with on Tuesday.
Santiago Vescovi was Tennessee’s leading scorer on the night, finishing the game with 18 points, followed by Kennedy Chandler with a crisp 17 points. Chandler was a superstar on Tuesday night and looked every part of the future NBA player that he will soon be.
