Tennessee Makes the Cut for Elite Four-Star Receiver

The Tennessee Volunteers football team is one step closer to landing 2023 wide receiver Kyler Kasper. On Saturday, the talented four-star prospect announced his official Top 10 list, which does include Tennessee.

Kasper’s Top 10, according to his post on Twitter, is UCLA, Ohio State, Iowa, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia, USC, Oregon, Arizona State, and Miami.

The first thing that jumps off the page with Kasper’s Top 10 is the diversity in his choices. Kasper’s list features four teams from the Pac-12, two teams from the Big 10, two teams from the SEC, one from the ACC, and one independent.

According to 247 Sports, there look to be four teams that are supposedly leading the way: Iowa, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and UCLA. Additionally, Kasper does have Hawkeye blood in his veins from his father, Kevin Kasper, a former Iowa wide receiver from 1997 to 2000.

Tennessee Football Recruiting: Four-Star Recruits Announce Visits to Tennessee

Standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 185-pounds, Kasper is listed as a four-star receiver in the class of 2023 by ESPN, 247, On3, and Rivals. Had Kasper been in Tennessee’s 2021 receiving room, he would be tied with Grant Frerking and Jack Jancek for the tallest receivers on the team. Which is certainly something important to note. Kasper uses his size to his advantage, which allows him to make incredible plays all across the field, and primarily in the endzone. With his sheer height alone, Kasper has the ability to jump for the ball and reach higher than the defensive back that he is going against.

Additionally, as seen in many of his various highlight tapes from past seasons, Kasper’s size also gives him the ability to be a very effective blocker on the outside. While that concept is sometimes overshadowed, a receiver’s blocking ability only becomes more necessary as one advances through the different levels of football. And for Kasper, he has the size to be effective against SEC defensive backs.

Kasper has been on Josh Heupel’s radar for some time now as the Vols did give him a scholarship offer just about two weeks before the 2021 season on August 18. Meanwhile, the other SEC team in contention, Georgia, only extended Kasper an offer on January 18.

Rivals does have the most positive ranking on Kasper, listing the four-star prospect as the 74th-ranked player nationally, the 12th-ranked receiver in the class, and the third-ranked player from the state of Arizona in the class of 2023.

However, when including On3, 247, and ESPN, Kasper does hold a Top 35 wide receiver ranking according to all four major publications.

Kyler Kasper was born in Gilbert, Ariz., and now plays for Williams Field High School in the same city. The skilled wide receiver will be entering his senior season coming up in the fall of 2022.
