Back The Over In This Big Ten Matchup
After a 3-0 start to the 2022 season, the Tennessee men’s tennis team has climbed to the No. 1 ranking in the ITA Top-25 Coaches Poll— college tennis main poll.
Tennessee entered the season ranked No. 4 in the poll and climbed to the top spot after earning a five-set win at No. 5 TCU.
The rise to No. 1 marks the first time Tennessee has ranked No. 1 in the ITA Coaches Poll since 2011.
Tennessee alum and fifth-year head coach Chris Woodruff has brought the Vols’ program to the top of the sport in quick order. The Vols were 14-2 when COVID-19 ended the 2020 season before bursting on to the national scene last season.
The Vols won the SEC Tournament and made it all the way to the Final Four before losing in six sets to Baylor in the semifinal.
Tennessee returns stars Adam Walton, Johannus Monday and Pat Harper and added Florida star Blaise Bicknell.
The Vols are one of seven SEC teams in the top 25, including No. 3 Florida, No. 7 Georgia, No. 11 Kentucky, No. 12 South Carolina, No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 21 Mississippi State.
Woodruff’s fifth Tennessee team returns to the court on Jan. 25 when they host Wake Forrest to the Goodfriend Tennis Center.

Ryan, I really appreciate your recognition of the Vols tennis team and Coach Woodruff’s success but… you need to learn the proper terminology in describing a collegiate dual match. I’m sure any of the coaching staff would be happy to explain it to you.
Still thanks for covering Tennessee tennis!
