The Florida Gators have reportedly made a significant change to their football coaching staff.
After suffering a loss an overtime loss to Missouri on Saturday night, Florida has officially parted ways with head coach Dan Mullen. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Chris Low on Sunday afternoon.
Mullen, who has been fired in the midst of his fourth season as the Gators’ head coach, had led the team to a 5-6 record so far in 2021. Since beating Vanderbilt on Oct. 9, the Gators have lost four straight conference games to LSU, Georgia, South Carolina and Missouri.
After landing a spot in the SEC Championship game in 2020, the Gators are on the brink of going under .500 this year. The Gators’ final game of the season will be against Florida State this upcoming Saturday.
During his tenure at Florida, Mullen was 4-0 against Tennessee including a 38-14 victory against the Vols in September of this season.
According to the report, Greg Knox will take over as the team’s interim coach in the final stretch of the season. Knox currently serves as the Gators’ running backs coach and special teams coordinator.
