Tennessee running back Tiyon Evans is out for Saturday night’s game against South Alabama. The Vols are also without Kingston Harris and Christian Charles. The pair of back ups have missed most of the season with injuries.
Heupel said Evans wasn’t able to practice on Thursday so his absence is not surprising. With Evans out, Tennessee will turn to Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright.
Both JaVonta Payton and linebacker Aaron Beasley are available for Saturday’s game. However, Payton was late coming out to warm up and didn’t work with the first team during warm ups. Ramel Keyton worked with the starters in his place.
“You guys know that Fridays are usually when we make those final decisions,” Heupel said on Thursday. “[Aaron] Beasley has continued to get better. We’ll see where he is at tomorrow. Tiyon [Evans] wasn’t able to do much today and probably won’t be able to go tomorrow. JaVonta [Payton] continues to get better throughout the week. But we usually make all those decisions on Friday.”
The Vols can clinch bowl eligibility with a win over the Jaguars. ESPNU will broadcast the game.
