While major renovations are moving slow at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, the Tennessee baseball stadium is enhancing its left field seating options ahead of the 2022 season, sources tell Rocky Top Insider.
The Vols are adding 11 more porches in left field, creating a double decker of porches that will consume the slender parking area that is currently directly behind the left field porches. The new porches will back directly into Todd Helton Drive.
Tennessee added temporary seats down the left field line for last season’s NCAA Tournament run. The Vols are removing those seats before the 2022 season but are adding new temporary seats that will be a moderate increase in capacity from the 300 seats in the NCAA Tournament.
The temporary seats in left field will increase Lindsey Nelson Stadium’s capacity in the short term until the Vols can add permanent seating connected to the main stadium concourse.
While long term plans are coming slow for Lindsey Nelson Stadium’s renovation there was some news Monday as Larry Pratt made a $5 million donation to the Tennessee Fund for baseball stadium renovations.
This comes off Tennessee’s best season in two decades, with the Vols winning the SEC East and making it to the College World Series.
Vitello earned a major pay increase after the season, now making over double what he made when he took the Tennessee job over four years ago.
The Vols began fall practice last week as they prepare for two fall scrimmages and the 2022 season.
