After a week one win over Bowling Green, Tennessee is officially set as the underdog in its week two matchup with Pittsburgh according to multiple online gambling sites. DraftKings has Tennessee as a 2-point underdog, while Fanduel has the Vols as a 1.5-point underdog. In addition, Circa Sports has Tennessee as a 1-point underdog, as well.
Pitt earned a 51-7 blowout win over UMass in week one. The Panthers threw for 375 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 223 yards and five touchdowns. Pitt’s defense held UMass to 209 total yards and one turnover.
Like Pitt, Tennessee wasn’t seriously tested week one as the Vols coasted past Bowling Green. Still, Josh Heupel’s debut wasn’t without flaws as Tennessee’s passing game faltered.
The two teams will honor the late Johnny Majors— who coached Tennessee to three SEC titles and Pitt to a national title— in Saturday’s noon ET kick-off.
The Pitt matchup is an important early-season test for Heupel and his football team. As the 1-to-2-point spread indicates the two teams are evenly matched. The non conference matchup will be integral to whether Tennessee qualifies for a bowl game or not.
Tennessee is 0-1 against the spread this season while Pitt is 1-0, covering as 37.5-point favorites in week one.
ESPN will broadcast the matchup between Tennessee and Pittsburgh following College Gameday Saturday morning.
