It was a busy afternoon for a number of players, as four Vols met with the media, following practice on Thursday. It was QB coach Joey Halzle up first, as he spoke about the ongoing competition in camp, with Harrison Bailey, Joe Milton, Hendon Hooker, and Brian Maurer.
Halzle also took questions on how the other offensive position groups are working on their timing with the quarterbacks, along with learning the playbook.
Tennessee had two representatives from the wide receiver room speaking with the media on Thursday, as JaVonta Payton and Jimmy Calloway spoke about the ongoing QB battle, learning their routes, understanding the playbook, and how they are attacking fall camp.
The player portion of the afternoon interviews started with RB Tiyon Evans, who spoke about the uptempo offense, learning the scheme, after coming from the Wing-T in high school, and how he’s trying to make up ground from the spring.
Lastly, it was TE Miles Campbell, who looks to be a weapon for the Vols this season, especially with the absence of Austin Pope. The freshman tight end will be helpful in many different areas of the offense, including run blocking and stretching the field.
The Vols will return to the field on Friday for practice, as they look to get past the acclimation period and get the pads popping. Continue following Rocky Top Insider for coverage of fall camp 2021.
