The recruiting process around top-ranked 2023 quarterback Arch Manning has already turned into a frenzy. So there is no surprise that Arch’s uncle, Peyton Manning, is right there in the middle of it as well.
Peyton Manning was directly asked if his nephew, Arch, was Tennessee bound on the Pardon My Take podcast on Monday.
“No inside information on that,” Manning said with a laugh. “I’m his uncle, I’m his Godfather, so I’m trying to fulfill that role. I hope he has a fun high school experience.”
It isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last, that former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning will have to field a question about his nephew. Arch Manning is the top-ranked quarterback in the class of 2023 on 247 Sports and On3. Plus, it’s hard to stay under the radar when you are the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning.
“I am excited about my Vols,” Manning continued on to say. “I hope that we can get it going this year in Knoxville, have some fun, and win some games.”
Coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee football team will begin their camp on Wednesday, Aug. 4. A new era has started in Knoxville, as a considerable amount of the team, the staff, and the program have all undergone change. The Tennessee football department is due for a fresh start, which will officially begin on Sept. 2.
Manning did not hint at a connection between his nephew and Tennessee during his response. Although, it could be because there just isn’t much to hint at with how early it still is. Arch Manning has collected 12 scholarship offers, including one to Tennessee. In June, Rivals reported a projected list of frontrunners for Manning. These included Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss.
However, Arch Manning has not released any sort of list of finalists himself.
Until Arch Manning does commit, it’s fairly safe to say that Peyton Manning will have a lot more deflecting to do.
One Response
Peyton won’t try and influence Arch. He will let Arch make his own decision, just like Archie did with Peyton. That’s just the way that family rolls and it’s to be commended. Arch is the one that has to live with the decision, it should be his and his alone. My own 2 cents: I will be surprised if he goes to an SEC school. He will be compared to Peyton and Eli no matter where he goes, but the magnifying glass will be that much greater at any SEC school. Clemson seems like the most likely destination in my humble opinion, but if he should choose the Vols, you won’t hear me complaining.
