The Vols didn’t have to wait long for new assistant coach Justin Gainey to work the recruiting trail. Tennessee has landed a 2021 commitment from 6-foot-11 center Jonas Aidoo.
The former Marquette commit is the #7 center on 247 sports and the 3rd ranked prospect out of North Carolina. This is such a big pickup for the Vols basketball team, as it now gives them a solid presence in the post that they needed.

The 2021 class now includes Kennedy Chandler, Jahmai Mashack and Aidoo, which is a fierce trio for the Rick Barnes led team. It comes at a great time as well, with several players entering the portal. The Vols also added Quinten Diboundje and Auburn transfer Justin Powell.
For Aidoo, he previously had Tennessee on his short list of schools, before finally deciding to play for Marquette. But, with the coaching change and his former coach ending up in Knoxville, everything seemed to go in Tennessee’s favor. The Vols had to hold off North Carolina at the end, but now they will benefit from a versatile Center.
The Vols continue to fill out their 2021-2022 basketball roster and with the addition of Aidoo, things are continuing to trend upwards.
