Charles is ranked as a three-star prospect by Rivals. The Chestatee High School product out of Gainesville, Georgia is ranked as the 69th-best player in the state of Georgia in the class of 2021.
Tennessee made Charles’ top 5 on July 13 with Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State. Charles chose the Vols over those same schools despite not having taken a visit to Knoxville. The Vols were the first SEC school to offer him.
Charles has primarily played quarterback in high school, but most schools envision him playing other positions in college. That includes Tennessee, which he has said is recruiting him to play in the secondary. Vols defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley has served as his primary recruiter.
Tennessee now has 26 commitments for the class of 2021, a class that ranks No. 8 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC. The Vols now have commitments from six players who project to play defensive back on Rocky Top.
