Report: Pruitt Hires Alabama Assistant to Strength Staff

Back on June 5th, Tennessee officially announced the promotion of assistant strength coach AJ Artis to the head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Vols following Craig Fitzgerald’s move to the NFL. Now, UT has reportedly filled that void left behind by Artis on the support staff.

According to David Ubben of The Athletic, Tennessee has hired Alabama assistant strength coach Kindal Moorehead to the same role at UT. Moorehead has served as an assistant strength coach under Nick Saban since 2010.

Moorehead joins the Vols with extensive experience with the Tide, and he likely already has a relationship with Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt thanks to Pruitt working at Alabama multiple times in Moorehead’s tenure at Alabama.

Not only did Moorehead coach at Alabama for nearly a decade, but he played for the Tide in college as well. He was a solid defensive tackle who was selected in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers and spent a few seasons in the league.

Moorehead joins former South Carolina defensive players Byron Jerideau and Shaq Wilson and former Penn State offensive lineman Mike Farrell on Artis’ support staff on the strength and conditioning side of things.
