J.T. Daniels (R-Jr.), Georgia
Jamie Newman (Sr.), Georgia

Newman, a Wake Forest transfer, was getting the offseason attention and preseason accolades before USC transfer J.T. Daniels picked Georgia over a plethora of suitors, so there will be a real quarterback battle in Athens in fall camp.

With the Demon Deacons in 2019, Newman was second in the ACC in total offensive yards per game with more than 286 and was fifth in the league in passing yards per games at 239.

While Newman finished with career bests at Wake Forest in passing, his legs added another element to his game. Newman finished fifth in program history with the most rushing yards by a quarterback at 826 and scored six rushing touchdowns last season.

Newman’s true dual-threat ability could help the Bulldogs’ transition into a new offense under first-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken, whose NFL offenses had a reputation for putting up big numbers.

The knock on Newman was the level of competition he faced in the ACC, which will be much different at Georgia with teams like Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee slated on their 2020 schedule. Newman also threw 11 interceptions a season ago.

While Newman seemed to be a guarantee for the starting quarterback job, a lot has changed in that regard in the past few weeks after Kirby Smart landed Daniels from the West Coast.

Daniels, a former five-star recruit, may have to sit out the 2020 season, so it may be a moot point. But if he were eligible, he’d have a good chance to beat out Newman for the starting role.

In just over a season with the Trojans, Daniels totaled 2,887 yards and 15 touchdowns, but a season-ending injury in the season opener sidelined him in 2019.

Considering his arm talent, Daniels could be just what Monken is looking for.

Danny Clark (Jr.), Vanderbilt

Danny Clark originally committed to Kentucky and was on the Wildcats’ roster in 2017 before spending the last two seasons in the junior college ranks.

Clark, a former four-star prospect out of Archbishop Hoban in Ohio, came back to the SEC and will compete for the starting quarterback job at Vanderbilt this fall.

At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Clark has the build of an SEC quarterback and has two years of eligibility left with the Commodores.

Shawn Robinson (R-Jr), Missouri

For the second-straight year, a Power Five transfer will be vying for Missouri’s starting quarterback job.

A season ago, it was Clemson transfer Kelly Bryant. This time around, it’s Shawn Robinson out of TCU.

Robinson spent two seasons in Ft. Worth with the Horned Frogs, throwing for 1,518 yards and 12 touchdowns before transferring to Missouri and sitting out the 2019 season.

Robinson is a talented athlete, but turnovers were a big issue for him at TCU, and first-year head coach Eli Drinkwitz will be tasked with cleaning up that area of his game up to help the Tigers’ offense drastically improve in 2020.
