The Vols have done a good job of addressing most of their offensive needs in the 2021 class so far. Tennessee holds commitments from quarterback Kaidon Salter, four projected wide receivers, four players who can play running back, and two players who can play at tight end. The Vols have a few athletes in that group who could move to other positions if needed, depending on how the class and roster shake out.
The biggest remaining area of need on the offensive side of the ball for Tennessee is along the offensive line. Tennessee has one offensive lineman committed right now in Colby Smith, and they’d like to add at least one more to this class.
Five-star Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims is Tennessee’s most important remaining target on offense in this cycle. Georgia is going to fight tooth and nail to keep him in state, but the Vols will do all they can to try and land him. He, much like Smael Mondon, appears to be leaning towards the Bulldogs right now, but Tennessee is right there. Alabama has also been very strong in Mims’ recruitment, and the Tide could end up pulling him out of Georgia instead.
Terrence Ferguson is an interior prospect the Vols have targeted, and they have an outside shot with him. But Tennessee’s main interior targets are all rated below four-star status right now, so they won’t appear in this article.
Tennessee’s coaches would like to add another true tight end prospect to their 2021 class if they can. The Vols have Miles Campbell and Trinity Bell right now, but I think the staff would like to move Bell to defense if possible. The 6-foot-7 athlete has the ability to make an impact either at tight end or along the defensive line, but he’ll likely stay at tight end unless the Vols land another tight end.
The most likely option for Tennessee at tight end is in-state four-star Hudson Wolfe. The Vols have been fighting off Ohio State for Wolfe for a while, and Tennessee will be sweating this one out no matter where Wolfe commits initially. Big Colorado tight end Terrance Ferguson has the Vols among his top teams, and he seems to really like Tennessee.
Unless there’s some attrition to the class, Tennessee appears done at running back outside of maybe jumping back in the race for someone like LJ Johnson. Besides that, the Vols seem to be set there, and they likely won’t add another wide receiver unless one of their top targets wants in.
Dont’e Thornton is the biggest name right now at wide receiver still considering the Vols. Ultimately I think the Vols may be done at wideout this cycle, though.
