Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M
There are about 10 million reasons why Jimbo Fisher is on this list.
The Texas A&M head coach is heading into his third season with the program, and outside of beating LSU in that epic seven-overtime thriller to conclude the 2018 regular season, his Aggies are still in search of a signature win.
Fisher also returns the most experienced quarterback in the SEC in three-year starter Kellen Mond.
In his sophomore campaign in 2018, Mond threw for more than 3,100 yards and 24 touchdowns, but he took a step back and struggled with consistency last season, throwing for 2,897 yards and 20 scores.
A big leap from Mond in his senior season could go a long way in Fisher’s perception as the Aggies’ head coach. The success he had at Florida State speaks for itself, winning a national championship in 2013 and coaching Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston to a Heisman trophy that same season.
But Fisher still needs a statement win at Texas A&M. He came close in his first season in a 28-26 loss to No. 2 Clemson at Kyle Field, but the Aggies were less than impressive against the Tigers on the road in 2019 in a 24-10 loss.
With Auburn and LSU expected to take a step back in 2020 and Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Arkansas bringing in new head coaches, the second place spot in the SEC West should belong to the Aggies. They will be expected to compete with Alabama — something they have yet to do under Fisher.
With the experience Texas A&M brings back on offense, Texas A&M will be expected to take that next step forward under Fisher, despite the tumultuous offseason.
