Tennessee already has one tight end committed to them in their 2021 class, and they picked up a commitment from three-star Alabama athlete Trinity Bell on Friday. Bell is capable of playing either tight end or defensive end, depending on how the Vols’ 2021 class shapes up. If the Vols can add another true tight end to their class, Bell may start out on defense.
On Friday, another one of UT’s targets at tight end included the Vols among his top remaining teams.
Terrance Ferguson, a four-star tight end in Colorado, released a list of his top 10 teams almost two months ago. He’s now trimmed down that group to just five, and Tennessee made the cut along with Auburn, Oregon, USC, and Wisconsin.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Ferguson is the No. 337 overall prospect, 14th-best tight end, and No. 3 recruit in the state of Colorado in the 2021 cycle.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound athlete plays for Heritage High School and is one of the highest-rated prospects in the state of Colorado. Tennessee first extended an offer to Ferguson back on November 19, 2019. Ferguson holds over two dozen offers, but he’ll be focusing mostly on the five schools on his list.
The talented tight end has yet to visit any of the schools in his top five, but he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to visit in the near future if recruits are allowed to travel again after the recent dead period brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ferguson is a versatile offensive weapon who primarily lines up out wide as a wide receiver but also is utilized as a running back at times for Heritage. The big-bodied receiver already has great body control and is faster than you’d expect, mostly due to his long strides as he runs. Ferguson already has a good foundation of route running skills, and he’s very dangerous in jump ball situations.
As a junior last season, Ferguson caught 54 passes for 929 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 236 rushing yards and two scores on 30 carries per MaxPreps. In two recorded seasons at Heritage, Ferguson has racked up 123 receptions for 1,901 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s totaled 24 touchdowns in 22 games, adding two rushing and two passing scores in addition to his receiving totals.
Tennessee holds commitments from 24 prospects in their 2021 class, and two of them are from recruits who could play tight end in college. Three-star Miles Campbell is a pure tight end prospect, while three-star Trinity Bell is capable of playing tight end, defensive end, or even defensive tackle with more added weight to his 6-foot-7 frame.
