Shawn Shamburger, DB
Shawn Shamburger quietly had a very strong season as Tennessee’s STAR nickel corner in 2020. He graded out as one of the Vols’ top defenders last year by Pro Football Focus, and he played his role as the third corner exceptionally well.
The key for Shamburger’s draft stock will be showing off some more versatility.
Nickel cornerbacks have a place in today’s NFL, and they’re highly valued. But Shamburger has really only shined in that one position, so can he help his draft profile by showing more potential as an outside corner?
The Alabama native played in all 13 games for UT last season and started all but one game. He was fifth on the team with 47 tackles and picked off a pass while totaling three sacks, and 4.5 tackles for loss.
Shamburger is great off the blitz, and he proved to be an ideal fit in Jeremy Pruitt’s system last season. If he can keep that up in 2020 and show a little bit more versatility, he definitely has the potential to be drafted.
