Bryce Thompson, CB
It’s not a given that Bryce Thompson will declare for the NFL Draft after he finishes his junior season this upcoming year, but chances are that he does as long as he plays up to his potential in 2020. And if he does, he’ll be an intriguing draft prospect thanks to his ball skills and athleticism.
Thompson has had off-field issues, but as long as he has learned from his mistakes and keeps his head clear, he has the potential to taken in one of the first two days of next year’s draft.
In 2018, Thompson was a Freshman All-American for Tennessee, and despite being suspended for three games last season, he still picked off three passes — all in one game, mind you — and nearly totaled the same amount of tackles he had as a freshman while defending five passes and getting two tackles for loss.
Cornerbacks are in high demand in the NFL. There were 27 corners selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the third-highest total by position. The only positions that saw more players taken were linebacker (39) and wide receiver (35). In the 2019 draft, cornerbacks led all positions in total draft picks with 32.
Again, there’s no guarantee that Thompson leaves early for the draft, but he is definitely a draftable player if he does and plays well in 2020.
